Project Brief: Low carbon approach to loft conversion * This loft conversion was engineered so as to act as a solar collector to heat the entire house. * The Sun’s energy is collected in 3 ways – solar gain through the south facing windows, integrated solar thermal roof panels, and photovoltaic elements within the window shading. * A mechanical ventilation system distributes the air warmed in the highly glazed loft space to the rest of the house. * Environmentally friendly materials; timber structure and finishes, lime plaster, and recycled materials address the carbon emissions associated with constructing the loft conversion. * Featured in Elle Decoration March 2001
