Marcham Low Carbon Community Centre
Project Brief: A new Community Centre in Marcham village with up to date community facilities. Concept proposals have been produced for the project for planning and community consultation. The aim was to reduce energy consumption and use natural, low carbon materials and make the facilities flexible. * The Hall is multi-functional and can be partitioned for day care, offices, meeting rooms, changing rooms, multi-gym and bar/cafe. * Timber frame and cladding. * Highly insulated with recycled newspaper. * Use of local materials, including stone. * A long glazed south elevation to maximise solar gain. * An elevated terrace, with views over the sports fields, to provide thermal sheltering. * Ground source heat pump and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery. * Energy efficient lighting systems. * The stepped zinc roof incorporates integrated photovoltaic and solar thermal panels. * Zero carbon emissions, and low running costs.
